Virginia McConnell’s vibrant portraits are inspired by her fascination with people in her community and the stories they carry with them. Collaged from hundreds of pieces of fabric, then assembled in the form of quilts, her work often focuses on moments that draw us together and foster a sense of community.

Virginia McConnell’s sculptures of children began as a reaction to society’s increasingly exaggerated polarization and intolerance. Searching for a source of agreement across diverse perspectives, she was drawn to the universality of children at play.
